On December 12, 2024, Špelca Rudolf, Secretary of the Slovenian Diabetes Association, received the prestigious HORUS 2024 Award for her outstanding contributions to social responsibility and sustainable development. Presented annually by the Institute for the Development of Social Responsibility (IRDO), the HORUS awards celebrate organisations and individuals whose efforts advance societal well-being and foster human interconnectedness. Since its inception in 2009, the award has recognised nearly 300 recipients for their impactful work.
As one of 26 honourees in 2024, Špelca Rudolf was recognised by the jury for her socially responsible and transformative initiatives promoting healthy lifestyles across Slovenia, particularly among young people and spanning multiple generations. Her approach to reducing the burden of diabetes and improving health and well-being combines prevention initiatives, awareness-raising activities and efforts to unite diverse communities. A key contribution of hers is her support for World Diabetes Day initiatives, which in 2024 included lighting up a record-breaking 91 landmarks and buildings in blue, symbolising unity and raising awareness in the fight against diabetes.
Through her strong dedication and expertise, Špelca Rudolf serves as an inspiring example both in Slovenia and internationally, underscoring the critical importance of advancing diabetes awareness and prevention.
