Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2002.
Member of YLD since 2015 (Young Leader).

My name is Chesca. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 8 years old. I first thought that I was the only child with this condition since I lived in one of the provinces in the Philippines. When my doctor introduced me to a diabetes foundation in the Metro, I felt assured that I am not alone in this journey. I have been living with type 1 diabetes for 14 years and counting. I have been through many glucose meters, taken different types of insulin, pricked my finger numerous times, and injected myself through syringes and needles. But despite that, I have participated in many physical activities such as badminton, trekking, camping, and circuit training. I have also been active in increasing awareness for type 1 diabetes in the country through social media.

My project: is about increasing awareness about diabetes through social media (Facebook and Instagram). My team and I will use infographic posters, short videos, and images to showcase the life of a person with diabetes, knowledge that a person with diabetes should have and the basic information for the general public. These will be released either on a weekly or monthly basis based on the theme or topic per month. We aim to reach 300-4000 people in the Philippines.
