IDF estimates that more than 1.1 million children and adolescents live with type 1 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes also has the potential to become a global public health issue in this age group, due to the increasing levels of obesity and physical inactivity.
Promoting a healthy and supportive school environment fighting diabetes-related stigma and stimulating good habits to tackle the preventable risk factors for type 2 diabetes is fundamental to protect the health and prosperity of our societies.
On November 24, the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) hosted a webinar at 13:00 CET, linked to the previous KiDS webinar - “Advocating to bring diabetes education and prevention to schools”.
The webinar focused on the need to bring diabetes education to schools to generate a supportive environment for children living with diabetes and encourage healthy habits from a young age. In addition, speakers shared initiatives from different countries to promote healthy environments and diabetes education in schools.
