Over 100 thousand youth under the age of 18 in Honduras are living with diabetes. This number is alarming for health autorities, particularly as more and more young children are affected.
The prinicipal factor responsible for the increase in prevalence of this chronic condition is overweight and obesity. It is currently estimated that 37.4 percent of the country's population is overweight, some 3.2 million people. People living with diabetes are unable to control the amount of glucose in their blood.
