There are 7.6 million people living with diabetes in Central Europe. A significant disparity exists between the diabetes prevalence in this region and Europe as a whole.
Major structural challenges continue to stifle the ability to provide proper care for people with diabetes across countries in the region. It is time to close the gap!
IDF Europe together with 14 experts from Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Serbia launched the Diabetes Evidence Initiative in Central Europe (DEICE) in 2019 to strengthen efforts to build effective policy and advocacy strategies to reduce the impact of diabetes in these countries.
We call for urgent political prioritisation and action to:
- Develop and implement diabetes registries
- Improve access to care and innovation
- Provide multilevel care in diabetes
We urge all responsible policymakers to give attention to these challenges and act accordingly at the national level. You can support us by signing our petition.
We hope that this Declaration will leverage evidence-based practices to improve diabetes care in Central Europe and serve as an inspiration to build on in future.
