From June 10 to June 13, the Portuguese Diabetes Association (APDP) and the association’s youth group (NJA) held the 5th APDP/NJA Expedition for Type 1 Diabetes, a three-day hike to the National Portuguese Park. Fourteen young people living with Type 1 Diabetes, three healthcare professionals, three guides, and one photographer participated in the expedition which consisted of five trails of medium-high difficulty.
The main goals of this initiative are to highlight the importance of physical activity as part of the daily management and treatment of diabetes, to promote healthy lifestyles and, most importantly, to help young people living with diabetes understand how to manage their blood glucose levels while undertaking intense physical activity.
