During November, the Portuguese Society of Diabetology (SPD) joined the World Diabetes Day campaign to raise awareness of the need for better access to quality diabetes education for healthcare professionals and people living with diabetes (PwD).
On November 14, SPD shared key facts and figures about diabetes on its social media channels. Compared to other European countries, Portugal has a very high diabetes prevalence. According to the National Diabetes Observatory, 13.3% of the Portuguese population aged between 20 and 79 lives with diabetes.
On November 23, the association held a webinar organised by the Education Study Group, and targeted at healthcare professionals, on “Better communication for the success of the multidisciplinary team”. Multidisciplinary teams are essential in the provision of optimal diabetes care, and HCPs communication skills play a key role in improving their relationship with PwD.
