On World Kidney Day, IDF Europe releases information on Chronic Kidney Disease for People living with Diabetes to bridge the gap in knowledge and awareness of the disease

10 March 2022

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive loss in kidney function that negatively affects one’s health and quality of life [i] and can lead to kidney failure. While CKD affects 1 in 3 people living with diabetes (PwD) in Europe [ii], effective prevention, early diagnosis and adequate care and medication can help lower the risk or slow down disease progression and help maintain a good quality of life.

The theme of World Kidney Day 2022 (WKD), “Bridge the knowledge gap to better kidney care”, highlights the lack of awareness and knowledge about CKD among the general public as well as community workers and healthcare professionals and public health policy makers, hindering the prevention of morbidity and mortality caused by CKD. .  This calls for greater availability of easy-to-understand information on the disease coupled with improved education of healthcare professionals and greater government focus on CKD [iii].

On the occasion of WKD 2022, IDF Europe aims to raise awareness of CKD and empower PwD to optimally prevent and manage CKD through the release of accessible information targeting the general public.
