Raising Awareness: "Diabetes Prevention Day" Event in Kyiv

24 August 2023

On August 14, 2023, the International Diabetes Association of Ukraine partnered with the Ukraine’s Ministry of Health Kyiv City Centre for Disease Control and Prevention to organise the “Diabetes Prevention Day” in Kyiv.

This event’s primary aim was to heighten public awareness about raised glycaemia, a critical risk factor for the development of Type 2 diabetes. The overarching goal was to motivate people with elevated glycemia levels to proactively adopt measures that could effectively reduce the risk of these elevated levels leading to diabetes.

A total of 122 people underwent testing, with the results revealing a concerning trend: 19 people displayed elevated levels of glycated haemoglobin, ranging from 7.5 to 11.6. Many of these individuals also had high cholesterol levels and elevated blood pressure readings, further emphasising the importance of holding such an event.

Each one of the people tested received medical guidance, with comprehensive consultations provided by healthcare professionals. These consultations aimed to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and strategies to address their individual health concerns, thereby empowering them to make informed decisions regarding their well-being.

The event served as a reminder of the pressing need to address diabetes prevention. By raising awareness of the risks associated with elevated glycaemia and providing people with personalised healthcare guidance, the “Diabetes Prevention Day” played a pivotal role in empowering the participant to take charge of their future.
