13 June 2019

The three IDF Europe members, the Belgians Diabetes Liga, the Belgian Diabetes Association (l’Association Belge des Diabètes, ABD), and the Italian ANIAD, participated in the international “Climbing For Life” event which took place on June 13-15 in Passo dello Stelvio (Bormio,Trentino) at an altitude of 3000m.

“Climbing For Life” is a cycling event designed not only to demonstrate that physical activity is an essential pillar in both the treatment and prevention of diabetes, but also to show that people living with diabetes, regardless of whether they live with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, can cope with great physical effort.

A team of 12 people with, or at high risk of, diabetes participated in this edition. For six months, they prepared for the event, supervised by a medical team from the Diabetes Liga and ABD. Five athletes from ANIAD and 12 each from Diabetes Liga and ABD took part in the event. The team of athletes living with the condition raised funds for the fight against diabetes and served as a source of inspiration for others.
