Type 2 diabetes can progress silently for years before diagnosis, often with complications already developing by the time it is detected. Early detection creates opportunities to intervene sooner, prevent or delay complications and improve long-term health outcomes. Given the close links between diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity and other chronic conditions, identifying risk earlier and ensuring timely, integrated action is essential to reducing the burden of these interconnected conditions and building healthier, more resilient health systems.
