Diabetes is a complex and growing public health challenge that reaches far beyond healthcare alone. Addressing it requires a comprehensive approach that considers prevention, early detection, access to care and innovation, as well as the wider social and policy environments that shape people’s lives.

But are we asking the right questions to drive meaningful change?

Developed by IDF Europe in the context of World Diabetes Day 2026 and the Diabetes 360° Exhibition at the European Parliament, this resource explores six interconnected themes that are essential to better understanding and improving diabetes prevention, care and outcomes across Europe.

Each theme offers an overview of key issues, challenges and opportunities, alongside a selection of relevant resources. Together, they invite decision-makers and all those interested in diabetes to look at the bigger picture, challenge existing approaches and consider what more can be done to address diabetes and its interconnected conditions, ensuring that no one is left behind.

We invite you to explore the six themes below and discover the questions, perspectives and resources shaping the conversation around diabetes in Europe.
