Prof. Konstantinos Makrilakis appointed as the new President of the Hellenic Diabetes Association

05 May 2025

In March 2025, Professor Konstantinos Makrilakis was elected President of the Hellenic Diabetes Association (HDA), succeeding Dr. Anastasia Mavrogiannaki. Her impactful four-year term saw key advancements, including the creation of a Diabetes Mellitus specialisation for physicians, strengthened collaborations with scientific and patient groups, and a greater role for the HDA in public health policy. Notable achievements also include the launch of the “EDE App” providing free digital access to national diabetes guidelines since 2023, the acquisition of the HDA’s first permanent headquarters, and a commemorative volume marking its 50-year legacy.

Professor Makrilakis, a leading expert in Diabetology, aims to modernise and expand the HDA’s scientific and societal influence. Priorities for the new Board include continuing specialisation efforts and establishing a national “Diabetes Educators” curriculum to enhance multidisciplinary care.

IDF Europe extends its sincere gratitude to Dr. Mavrogiannaki for her outstanding leadership over the past years. We also express our full support to the newly appointed President, Prof. Makrilakis, as he embarks on this important role.
