IDF Europe World Diabetes Day Webinars

21 October 2021

The theme for World Diabetes Day 2021 is Access to Diabetes Care, if not now when? Millions of people living with diabetes (PwD) in Europe do not have equal access to diabetes care, education and psychological support, healthy food and a safe place to exercise. To inform policymakers, raise awareness and promote impactful actions, IDF Europe will hold two webinars in November.

ACCESS TO DIABETES CARE – IF NOT NOW, WHEN?
How are digital technologies and AI improving access to diabetes care?

Hosted by MEP Sirpa Pietikäinen, MMD Co-Chair, and MEP Marisa Matias
16 November 2021 – 12.00 – 13.15 CET

WDD 1 webinar save the date

The discovery of insulin is one of the most important breakthroughs in the history of diabetes treatment. Since then, advances in diabetes treatments and therapies have transformed the lives of PwD, notably reducing the daily burden of its management. Newer technologies, including those driven by artificial intelligence, have the potential to further improve the quality of life of PwD and help identify and diagnose people at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes and diabetes-related complications early.

During the webinar, speakers will address the critical role of digital technologies and AI in supporting equitable and sustainable access to quality diabetes care.

ACCESS TO DIABETES CARE – IF NOT NOW, WHEN?
Innovative financing for sustainable access to quality diabetes care in Central and Eastern Europe – How far are we from Universal Health Coverage?

18 November 2021 – 12.00 – 13.15 CET

WDD EASTERN COUNTRIES

To ensure equitable and sustainable access to quality diabetes care, it is time to rethink how care is financed. The focus of this webinar will be on Central and Eastern Europe, where new financing mechanisms/strategies are still required to ensure that the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, in particular Targets 3.4 and 3.8 can be achieved.

During the webinar, speakers will explore the key strategies supporting improved availability and affordability of core diabetes interventions and services including budget prioritisation, re-design of healthcare systems and review of procurement systems as well as health financing mechanisms and innovative approaches to healthcare system financing.
