It is with deep sadness that we say goodbye to a cherished member of the diabetes community and an active diabetes advocate of our T2D platform.
Yvonne Johns passed peacefully at her home on August 23, surrounded by her family, after a long battle with cancer. Despite the condition, Yvonne never stopped contributing and enjoying her work connecting people living with diabetes with each other and fundraising for Diabetes UK and other charities. Working with the All Wales Diabetes Patient Reference Group and Diabetes North Wales Reference Groups she ensured people newly diagnosed with diabetes had a place where they could lean on their peers, share experiences and find resources to ease the first steps of their journey. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when lockdown limited access to resources and screening, together with these patient groups she advocated for access to diabetes services and continued to provide information and a safe space for people living with diabetes.
IDF Europe is particularly thankful to Yvonne for her strong engagement and dedication. Her passion, expertise and experience were an inspiration for the development of our Type 2 platform and her contribution has been instrumental in many key projects and activities.
Her commitment and dedication to improving the lives of people living with diabetes will be deeply missed. We would like to share our deepest sympathy with her son Mark, her family and friends.
