The YOURAH network consists of Youth Leadership Camp (YLC) alumni from the past 14 camps.
YOURAH’s mission is to empower and unite the youth diabetes community. YOURAH members act as leaders in their communities at local and national levels, strengthening the initiatives of IDF Europe Members Associations. They engage in projects that are broad-ranging, from raising awareness of diabetes, advocating for better prevention, care and access, and creating a supportive community for young people living with diabetes (PwD) across Europe.
Advocacy initiatives
YOURAH members often engage in meaningful dialogue with EU policy makers and share their views through one-on-one meetings as well as participation in various events. For example, YOURAH members joined in panel discussions with MEPs and other stakeholders in the lead up to the new Diabetes Resolution adopted in November 2022 by the European Parliament.
World Diabetes Day is another significant occasion to make an impact. YOURAH actively supports this day through a varied range of activities. Platform members also take part in campaigns around various international days such as International Youth Day and European Mental Health Week. Through these campaigns, YOURAH members highlight the unique challenges faced by young PwD and advocate for their rights and well-being.
YOURAH members also contribute to advocacy efforts by sharing insights and stories about diabetes care in their own countries.
EU-funded research projects
Another type of engagement is participation in IDF Europe’s EU-funded research projects, leveraging resources and collaborating with other organisations to drive innovation and improve diabetes care across the EU. These projects offer valuable opportunities for networking, knowledge sharing and developing new strategies to address the real needs of PwD.
Alumni get-togethers
We cherish the unique sense of community within YOURAH and regularly organise alumni get-togethers. These events provide a platform for past members to reconnect, share their journeys, and continue contributing to our advocacy efforts. In 2024, the YOURAH Forum will take place in Brussels on November 7-9, providing participants with opportunities to engage in advocacy and communication training, design campaigns and interact with European decision-makers.
