By joining forces with top international organisations, specialised agencies, diabetes advocates and other pertinent stakeholders, IDF has created powerful advocacy initiatives to promote diabetes prevention and improve access to care worldwide.

Our work is informed by the impactful projects and activities we undertake, and we are committed to engaging with everyone who shares our mission to make a difference in the lives of people living with diabetes and their carers.

    • Non-communicable Disease (NCD) Alliance: As one of the founding members of the NCD Alliance in 2009, we collaborate globally in over 80 countries to prevent and control NCDs, leaving no one behind.

    • Global Coalition for Circulatory Health (GCCH): The GCCH is an advocacy initiative uniting 32 international, regional and national stakeholders in circulatory health. The GCCH released two papers on “Driving sustainable action for circulatory health” in 2018 and “Preventing the next pandemic: the case for investing in circulatory health” in 2021. As a member of the GCCH leadership group, IDF works to drive the urgent action needed to combat heart disease, a leading cause of death globally and a major risk for people with diabetes.

    • World Health Organization (WHO): IDF has official relations with the WHO. IDF and WHO collaborate closely on diabetes awareness, prevention and care. In 2021, WHO launched the Global Diabetes Compact to engage people with lived experiences in diabetes prevention and management. By considering their insights and perspectives, we can improve the care provided to people with diabetes.

    • Panamerican Health Organization (PAHO):  An estimated 62 million people in the Americas live with type 2 diabetes. IDF is in official relations with PAHO/WHO in the Americas. PAHO works towards effective measures to prevent and manage diabetes and diabetes complications, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.

Additionally, IDF holds Codex Observer status on the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC), the Joint FAO/WHO Food Standards Programme and is associated with the United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI).
