The title of Fellow of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF Fellow) is an honorary title awarded to healthcare professionals who have made a significant contribution in the field of diabetes. IDF Fellows may be called upon to participate in the activities of the Federation, from conferences and research to education and advocacy.

The goals of the IDF Fellowship programme are to:

  • Acknowledge the contributions of exceptional medical and allied healthcare professionals who are, or have recently been, active in the field of diabetes or related disciplines.
  • Foster a global community of diabetes experts to promote knowledge exchange and help strengthen the global diabetes response.
  • Enhance the knowledge, skills and career prospects of healthcare professionals currently working in diabetes.

The IDF Fellowship programme is open to clinical practitioners, nurses and allied professionals, and scientific researchers.

Eligibility requirements

Clinical Practitioner Nurse/Allied Professional Scientific Researcher
At least 15 years of clinical experience At least 10 years of professional experience with a minimum of 5 years serving people living with diabetes At least 10 years of professional experience
A minimum of 3 full articles related to diabetes as lead author Letter of motivation with evidence of contribution to IDF’s mission A minimum of 10 original research articles publications as first/last author

 

Becoming an IDF Fellow requires a two-year commitment and a subscription payment. This will only be required once your application has been approved by the Fellowship Committee.

The fee for becoming an IDF Fellow can either be paid in full or split over two calendar years. The fee varies by country and by category.

High-income country (as defined by the World Bank) 800 Euros for two years (or two payments of 400 Euros each year) 600 Euros for two years (or two payments of 300 Euros each year)
Other country 500 Euros for two years (or two payments of 250 Euros each year) 400 Euros for two years (or two payments of 200 Euros each year)
