This research legacy includes helping establish the existence of two distinct types of diabetes in the late 1940s and conducting pioneering epidemiological studies across the Pacific and Mauritius that anticipated the rise of the modern diabetes epidemic. These discoveries have helped shape how diabetes is understood and managed worldwide.
