The Diabetes Association Suriname (DVS) was established on 29 October, 2004.
DVS was founded in order to promote a lifestyle focused on diabetes prevention, raise awareness of the importance of early detection, represent the interests of people with diabetes in all aspects – medical, social, societal and socio-economical – and stimulate contact between people with diabetes.
Main Focus
- Help promote diabetes care and prevention to the community by addressing diabetes complications and information about nutrition and exercise for a healthy lifestyle.
- Improve the lives of people with diabetes (screenings).
- Assist the community nationwide.
- Contribute to the dissemination of knowledge and information about diabetes and living with diabetes.
Message from the President
“We are a member of IDF because we are a diabetes association for and by people with diabetes. IDF is the umbrella organisation and, as a low and middle-income country, we benefit from their activities and guidelines.”
