About

The Diabetes and Endocrinology Association Nepal (DEAN) was founded in 2008 by visionary endocrinologists and physicians, mainly Dr. Jyoti Bhattarai, Dr. Dina Shrestha, Dr. Santosh Shakya, and Dr. Amit Shakya, with a shared purpose to advance the field of endocrinology in Nepal and address the pressing needs of patients suffering from hormonal disorders.

Their vision stemmed from a deep understanding of the critical gap in specialised care for endocrine disorders, a complex and often overlooked realm of medicine that governs everything from thyroid dysfunction and growth abnormalities to reproductive health, bone metabolism, adrenal disorders, thyroid disorders, and diabetes. In recognising this void, these pioneers came together, united by a common goal to lay the foundation for a stronger, more informed, and more compassionate future in endocrinology care in Nepal.

At the heart of DEAN’s mission lies a twofold commitment—to empower and educate the nation’s doctors in the evolving science of endocrinology and to raise public awareness about the increasingly prevalent hormonal disorders, particularly diabetes and thyroid diseases. By bridging this knowledge gap, we aim to foster early diagnosis, better prevention strategies, and more effective treatment pathways—ultimately improving health outcomes for countless individuals across the country.

DEAN’s efforts extend beyond national borders, as the organization actively seeks collaborations with global partners to foster research, share knowledge, and enhance the quality of endocrine care in Nepal. What began as a small group of four dedicated doctors, DEAN has now grown into a thriving network of 209 members, united by a shared commitment to advancing patient care and improving the lives of those affected by endocrine and metabolic disorders.

At its core, DEAN’s work is driven by a singular, unwavering goal: to create a stronger, more informed, and compassionate future for endocrinology care in Nepal, ensuring better health outcomes for current and future generations. Through education, awareness, and collaboration, DEAN continues to make a profound impact on the field of endocrinology and the lives of countless individuals in Nepal and beyond.
