About

Action4Diabetes (A4D) is a UK-registered charity, established in 2015, and dedicated to improving access to life-saving medical resources and building robust support systems for people living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) in South-East Asia.

A4D works in collaboration with local governments and public health facilities to close the gaps in T1D care, strengthen health systems and improve education, advocacy and awareness of T1D in the region. Its activities are currently being implemented in Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam, where it collaborates with existing local associations.

Main Focus

A4D’s work focuses on addressing critical gaps in T1D care through:

  • Provision of life-saving supplies: Delivering insulin and blood glucose monitoring to over 950 disadvantaged young people with  T1D (ages 0–25) through collaborations with 37 public health facilities.
  • Promoting self-management: Empowering people with diabetes and caregivers with T1D specific education through programmes like HelloType1. Endorsed by ISPAD and local medical associations, this initiative offers curated content in local languages and has reached over 22,000 online users in five countries.
  • Capacity building: Organising specialised training for healthcare professionals in partnership with leading international and local diabetes experts.
  • Advocacy and Awareness: Advocating for improved diabetes care and raising awareness about the unique needs of the T1D Community
  • Research and Collaboration: Supporting studies to improve T1D care outcomes and collaborating with governments and healthcare organisations to create sustainable locally owned solutions
