This project is a multi-pillar initiative aimed at improving equity, access, and understanding of diabetes care in Thailand, with a focus on people living with diabetes and their families. Despite increasing awareness, major gaps remain in access to early screening, quality care, and psychosocial support—particularly in underserved communities. This project addresses these challenges through three integrated pillars. Education and Awareness seeks to reduce stigma and empower people living with diabetes by reshaping public and professional understanding of the condition. Through public forums, World Diabetes Day panels, and engagements with medical universities, the project highlights the psychological, social, and lived realities of diabetes, promoting empathy and inclusive care.
It is essential that diabetes is seen as manageable. Community Access and Screening focuses on bringing diabetes-related screening—especially for complications such as diabetic retinopathy—to populations with limited access to routine healthcare. By working with local partners and using clinically credible screening technologies, the project supports early detection and appropriate referral. Policy and Advocacy engages professional associations and public-sector stakeholders to support evidence-based discussions on access, affordability, and standards of care, contributing to longer-term system-level improvements. Together, these pillars work to strengthen diabetes care across awareness, access, and policy—ensuring progress that is inclusive, sustainable, and grounded in lived experience.
