Imbaraga Zacu (“Our Strength”) is a community-driven project implemented by Bright Circle Ltd, a Rwanda-registered social enterprise led by a Young Leader in Diabetes (YLD), dedicated to leveraging social media for diabetes awareness, advocacy, and patient support. The project empowers colleagues living with diabetes to use their talents—such as music, poetry, and art—to raise awareness about diabetes, improve self-care practices, and strengthen communication skills among peers. By showcasing the creativity and resilience of people living with diabetes, Imbaraga Zacu aims to challenge stigma, inspire others, and highlight the importance of diabetes management in daily life. The project also collaborates with renowned local artists and health professionals to amplify outreach and ensure accurate, engaging health messaging. Activities include mentorship, social media campaigns, and public performances that combine education, advocacy, and talent expression. Through these initiatives, Imbaraga Zacu seeks to influence both individual behaviour and broader policy discussions, addressing gaps in diabetes care and support in Rwanda. By fostering a culture of empowerment and advocacy, the project demonstrates how communities can leverage local talent and lived experience to improve health outcomes and inspire positive social change.
