In Guinea, diabetes affects a growing number of young people, many of whom struggle to maintain good glycemic control due to a lack of appropriate therapeutic education and regular support. According to the late Professor Naby Moussa Baldé, former national director of the Program for the Fight Against Non-Communicable Diseases, more than one thousand diabetic children are currently identified and monitored across the country (French.news.cn, November 15, 2022, on the occasion of World Diabetes Day).

This situation highlights the urgent need to strengthen the skills of young people living with diabetes so that they can better understand their condition, adopt appropriate dietary and therapeutic practices, and prevent complications related to hyperglycemia.

The project “Strengthening education for young Guineans living with diabetes to improve glycemic control” is part of this effort. It aims to equip young people with practical knowledge, create a community of trained peer educators, and promote a healthy lifestyle that includes physical activity and the daily management of diabetes.
