The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) is a non-profit umbrella organisation of over 250 national diabetes associations in 160 countries and territories. IDF is the global voice of the diabetes community and works to improve the lives of people living with diabetes and prevent diabetes in those at risk.
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Junior Professional Officer (JPO) to join our Epidemiology team on a full-time basis.
In this role, you will contribute to the implementation and development of key IDF projects, including the IDF Diabetes Atlas and the Type 2 diabetes and cardio-renal complications programme, while supporting a range of epidemiological research and data-related activities.
This position is offered as a one-year fixed-term contract remote position, with the possibility of extension. Candidates based outside Belgium will be hired through a consultancy contract (self-employed).

Key Responsibilities and activities
IDF Diabetes Atlas
- Support data collection, validation, and analysis for the IDF Diabetes Atlas.
- Assist in conducting literature reviews and extracting epidemiological data.
- Contribute to the preparation of country, regional, and global diabetes estimates and projections.
- Support the drafting of reports, presentations, and scientific publications.
Type 2 diabetes and cardio-renal complications programme
- Support the day-to-day implementation of the iCaReMe Registry.
- Assist in training and engagement activities with participating centres.
- Prepare project materials and meeting documentation.
Additional Activities
- Contribute to collaborative projects with other IDF teams and external experts.
- Carry out additional tasks as required by the Epidemiology Team.
Skills/Competencies/Experience
- Master’s degree in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, global health, medicine, or a related field.
- Interest in non-communicable diseases (NCDs), particularly diabetes, and global health.
- Basic knowledge of epidemiological research methods and data analysis.
- Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills.
- Excellent written and spoken English. Additional language skills are a plus.
- Familiarity with statistical software (e.g., R).
- Experience in scientific writing.
- Ability to work in multicultural, virtual and international environment.
- Embracing IDF values, ethics, and beliefs.
