Emmanuella Selasi Hormenoo (Ghana)

Author: Emmanuella Selasi Hormenoo

Hi, I’m Emmanuella Selasi Hormenoo from Ghana, and have been living with type 1 diabetes since 2021. I joined the Blue Circle Voice network because I’m passionate about using my voice to shape global conversations around diabetes. BCV gives me the chance to share my journey, learn from seasoned advocates and collaborate on campaigns that truly matter.

I’m committed to bridging grassroots realities with policy-making, empowering communities and highlighting the often-overlooked needs of women and adolescents in low- and middle-income countries.

Ghana is one of the 49 countries and territories in the Africa Region where the diabetes burden is expected to increase the most by 2050. In Ghana, almost 320,000 people live with diabetes, with 78% living undiagnosed.

Through the BCVs, I aim to push for accessible and affordable care—like insulin, screenings, treatment and diabetes education—especially in places where it’s needed most. By engaging directly with stakeholders, I hope to contribute to more inclusive health systems and create lasting change for people with diabetes everywhere.
