Hello! I’m Yahya Ur Rehman from Pakistan.

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 12 in 2013. Regular hospital visits and witnessing the lack of proper diabetes care in my community deeply impacted me—and inspired me to become a doctor. Today, after years of dedication, I’m proud to work as a junior doctor, using my voice and experience to advocate for others with diabetes.

Alongside my medical work, I volunteer with the Insulin4All campaign, and contribute to articles on access to care and education. I also participate in therapeutic patient education events hosted by the WHO Diabetes Compact team.As a medical student during my clinical rotations, I placed a strong emphasis on involving patients in their care plans, offering guidance on nutrition, physical activity, and mental well-being. I’ve also published research highlighting how education gaps, poor insulin access and burdened healthcare systems all contribute to diabetes complications.

Joining the Blue Circle Voices (BCV) network is a step forward in my mission to connect with fellow advocates, healthcare professionals and researchers. I want to share the stories I’ve encountered in remote hospitals—where patients face overwhelming barriers—and learn from others to help shape a more just and informed future for the global diabetes community.
