The Board of Directors is the elected management body of IDF. Its primary purpose is to serve the General Assembly to ensure the proper functioning of the Federation.
The Board of Directors develops IDF strategic plans and analyses all matters relating to the policy of IDF in collaboration with the Executive Office.
The Board of Directors is comprised of:

- President-Elect
- Two Vice Presidents with portfolio
- Finance
- Strategic governance
- Six Vice Presidents without portfolio
- Two physicians
- Two healthcare professionals
- Two non-healthcare persons
- Seven Regional Chairs
It was with profound sadness that the International Diabetes Federation received the tragic news of the untimely passing of our President, Professor Akhtar Hussain, on 1 July 2024. His death is a tremendous loss to his family, friends, and the entire global diabetes community. Read more.
The presidency of the International Diabetes Federation has now been assumed by Prof Peter Schwarz, who will continue the Federation’s work with the passion and determination of his predecessor and strive to bring his initiatives to fruition.
