IDF Congresses are a core activity of the International Diabetes Federation, offering a global platform to discuss a broad range of diabetes issues, from latest scientific advances to cutting-edge information on education, diabetes care, advocacy and awareness.
Participants include physicians, scientists, nurses, educators and other healthcare professionals, as well as government representatives, policy makers, people with diabetes, IDF members and media.

IDF Virtual Congress 2023
In 2021, IDF began organising a virtual congress dedicated to diabetes complications. The next edition will be held on 4-7 December 2023.
The IDF Virtual Congress 2023 will feature three dedicated streams offering the latest scientific advances in the management and prevention of diabetes complications. A fourth stream will focus on the impact of natural and man-made disasters on people living with diabetes and the long-term effects of Covid-19. All streams will include the experiences of people living with diabetes, which play a key role in understanding, managing and preventing diabetes complications.

IDF World Diabetes Congress
Held every two years, the IDF World Diabetes Congress ranks as one of the largest global medical meetings covering all facets of diabetes. Participants from across the globe meet to learn about a broad range of diabetes issues, from the latest scientific advances to cutting-edge information on education, diabetes care, advocacy and awareness.
From the first congress held in Leiden, the Netherlands, in 1952 to the most recent one in Lisbon in 2022, the number of participants has grown from a few hundred to over 12,000 delegates from 180 countries.
