Founded in 2005, the Leicester Diabetes Centre (LDC) has grown into an international Centre of Excellence in both Type 1 (T1) and Type 2 (T2) diabetes healthcare. The LDC is known for its world-leading clinical research, evidence-based education, and cutting-edge innovation in healthcare. It is the largest translational research, education, and clinical training facility for diabetes in Europe.

The LDC develops and implements innovative interventions in healthcare that change the lives of people living with the life-limiting condition of diabetes and creates unparalleled opportunities to prevent serious long-term disease. The LDC upholds a proud sixty-year-old tradition of diabetes care in Leicester, and in the last 14 years the team has grown from one research nurse to over 200 colleagues.
