On April 21, IDF hosted the online event “Covid-19 year three: the impact on diabetes care,” to mark the three-year anniversary of the virus being declared a global health emergency by WHO.
Covid-19 remains a health emergency, with over 90,000 new cases daily. In 2021, the IDF Diabetes Atlas reported diabetes as a risk factor for adverse outcomes from the virus. The following year, the IDF Diabetes Atlas launched a new report on diabetes and COVID-19. This report concludes that people living with diabetes that have poor glycaemic control and COVID-19 have three to four times greater risk for intensive care unit admission, mechanical ventilation or death.
Webinar panellists included healthcare professionals, institutional representatives and people living with diabetes.
