With UAE having one of the highest prevalence of diabetes in the world, combined with the fact that the management of diabetes is mostly done on an outpatient basis, a facility was conceptualized to provide comprehensive diabetes management, education and research under one roof.
The Dubai Diabetes Center was established at the Dubai Health Authority in April 2009 under the vision of a world without diabetes and its complications. Diabetes management is provided according to approved international standards. The Dubai Diabetes Center is considered as a Center of Excellence in Diabetes Management by the International Diabetes Federation. It strives to improve the lives of people with diabetes and its complications through innovative care, education, and research that will lead to prevention and cure of the disease and provide patient-centered, world class care in the patients’ own environment.
Dubai Diabetes Center follows the American Diabetes Association Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes, which is based on a comprehensive specialized medical team that includes Endocrinologists along with a group of experts in a variety of medical specialties, including clinical dietitian and nurse educators, psychologists, retinal camera operators, podiatrists and physical therapists. The Center has a special gym for patients, as well as a demonstration kitchen for teaching and preparing healthy food for patients. In addition, there is a dedicated pediatric endocrinology clinic aimed at caring for young people with diabetes. This clinic is designed to cater to the needs of the young patients in a colorful environment with dedicated play areas. Which led to successive successes and made it Over time, the Center has achieved the confidence of our patients as well as the community, and continues to provide excellent and complete medical care to people with diabetes along with successful research and academic achievements.
