The World Health Organization (WHO) is currently holding its 148th Executive Board from January 19 to 26. The agenda includes several NCD-related items, including the discussion of a Draft Decision on Addressing Diabetes as a Public Health Concern.
Member states are requested to develop a draft Resolution for consideration by the 74th World Health Assembly in May, focused on strengthening efforts to address diabetes as a public health concern as part of universal health coverage.
A Diabetes Resolution could have an impact, not only in preventing and controlling diabetes, but also on protecting circulatory health. IDF, on behalf of the Global Coalition for Circulatory Health and the NCD Alliance, has issued a statement to the Executive Board, asking member states to approve the Draft Decision and work towards the adoption of a Diabetes Resolution in May.
