The International Diabetes Federation expresses its sincerest condolences on the passing of Stewart Tembo, a former member of the IDF Young Leaders in Diabetes (YLD) programme.
Stewart joined the IDF family in 2011, after he was nominated by the Zimbabwe Diabetic Association to participate in the YLD Programme. From the first moment, he breathed life into the YLD group, becoming an incredibly valuable member. He quickly earned the friendship of his fellow YLD members thanks to his good sense of humour and singing during breaks and social events.
Stewart was an extremely committed diabetes advocate, trusted by the Zimbabwe Diabetic Association to lead its national diabetes advocacy group. As an advocate, he touched the lives of many, not only in his country but all around the world.
Stewart was an extraordinary ambassador for IDF and the YLD Programme, a role model and true friend to his fellow YLD members. His passing is a great loss to the diabetes community and leaves a great emptiness. However, we know he will not be forgotten. IDF and the YLD members will cherish Stewart’s memory and will continue working to improve the lives of young people living with diabetes worldwide – as we believe he would have wanted.
Stewart will always remain in our hearts and minds and will continue to be a source of inspiration for young people with diabetes around the world.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
