The Ruijing Diabetes Chain Hospital (RDCH) was founded in 1997. Since the establishment of the first diabetes hospital, it has developed as a Chinese diabetes specialty chain brand with five primary care medical institutes located in Beijing, Harbin, Chengdu, Taiyuan and Lanzhou. RDCH has a total construction area of 23,407 square meters, with 493 beds and 535 professional and technical personnel.

Beijing Ruijing Diabetes Hospital (BRDH) was established in 2008. It covers a construction area of 3000 square meters, with 60 beds and 133 professional and technical personnel. As the general hospital of RDCH, it has invited well-known domestic experts to lead clinical and scientific development, focusing on treating type 1 and type 2 diabetes, diabetic foot, diabetic retinopathy and diabetic neuropathy. BRDH provides high-quality diagnosis and treatment services for people with chronic diseases such as diabetes, kidney disease, thyroid disease, osteoporosis, hypertension, and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.

Over the past 27 years, RDCH has focused on the long-term management of diabetes and its complications, as well as comorbidities. It has practiced a patient-centered care management model, and has been deeply engaged in sustainable operation for many years. It has been recognised by industry and praised by patients, and included in many medical honour lists such as “High Quality Service Demonstration Hospital”, “Reputation Medical Model Unit”, “Social Responsibility Model”, “Contract abiding and Creditworthy Enterprise”, and “People’s Trust Demonstration Hospital”.

RDCH aims to “change diabetes together” and construct a “three in one” characteristic diagnosis and treatment system with the combination of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine and share-care model and intelligent chronic disease management systems. It promotes diabetes prevention and treatment, precision medicine and other characteristic medical services. In terms of diabetic foot disease, the combination of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine, and debridement and dressing change has achieved good therapeutic effects in improving lower limb blood circulation, relieving cold numbness and pain, promoting ulcer healing, and reducing amputation. The hospital has also invited well-known domestic experts to carry out thyroid ablation treatment, as well as medical nutrition weight loss and diabetes reversal, helping more than 300 patients with obesity and diabetes or pre-diabetes.

RDCH has received a number of honours, including:

The five RDCH hospitals have a total of 30 diabetes educators (21 with certification), providing professional DSMES for outpatient and inpatients. In 2023, the total DSMES education person-time amounted to 30,000 (5,994 for Beijing).

In 2014, RDCH launched the Diabetes Share-care and Integrated model for diabetes care. In 2016, the Diabetes Share-care Information System  (DSIS) was implemented for registration of people with diabetes as well as follow-up, storage of clinical information, biochemical measurements and medications at entry and during follow-up. With oral consent, patients can register on the DSIS and become involved in comprehensive risk factor assessments and screening for diabetes complications. They can also access multidisciplinary management from healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses and dietitians. To date, a total of 56,815 people have been registered and managed.

In future, RDCH will continue its efforts to improve long term diabetes management and change the care and improve the quality of life of people with diabetes.
