The Société Francophone du Diabète (SFD) was created in 1954. It has existed in its current form since May 1984 and changed its name in 2008 (previously ALFEDIAM). Its objective is to promote the development of research and good diabetes practice in France and French-speaking countries.
Main Focus
The primary objective of SFD is to guarantee scientific quality in diabetes, and also in the areas of metabolism, obesity, nutrition and lipids.
Activities
- Scientific meetings: annual spring meeting, paramedical training day in autumn, thematic meeting in winter
- Research support: one of the objectives of SFD is to promote and support pre-clinical and clinical research through substantial financial aid. It finances research grants, directly and in partnership with certain pharmaceutical companies, for young researchers, hospital teams and more experienced clinicians or researchers.
- Working groups: Fifteen multi-professional groups bring together doctors and non-doctors around a specific theme related to diabetes.
- Recommendations: SFD publishes guidelines and recommendations to offer the medical community reference diagnostic and therapeutic best practice procedures.
