Initial plan to a general overview of type 1 diabetes in Ecuador

Cohort: 2018-2019

Martín Jose Calero Mantilla – Ecuador

The project strives to create a baseline to determine the number of people with type 1 diabetes in the five most populated cities of Ecuador. The initiative intends to bring more visibility to people living with diabetes and foster the development of public health policies which will ensure the fundamental rights of people living with diabetes are upheld. The project will aim to be a true partnership between the public and the private sectors to bring to light the living conditions of people suffering with diabetes.

Martin is now developing a platform to help screen people with diabetes in those five cities. As part of its efforts to promote the platform, Martin is also currently looking for the most appropriate media channel. The work of census is in progress, and in the meantime Martin stays engaged and dedicated, for instance volunteering at a Diabetes Camp during summer 2018 or by planning on participating in fundraising activities for the International Diabetes Day in early November 2018.
