In the early hours of Monday, 6 February, a major earthquake of magnitude 7.8 struck south-eastern Turkey, near the Syrian border, resulting in significant loss of life, injury, destruction to infrastructure and the displacement of thousands of people. IDF is deeply concerned by the impact of the earthquake on the lives of people living with diabetes in Turkey, Syria and the surrounding region.
People living with chronic conditions like diabetes are particularly vulnerable when a natural disaster strikes as they require uninterrupted access to medicines and care. IDF is in close contact with its humanitarian aid partners – Direct Relief and Insulin for Life – and member organisations in the countries concerned, to ensure that diabetes medicines and supplies are available and accessible to people living with diabetes during this difficult time.
We relay our deepest sympathies to all those who have been impacted by this tragic event.
