Last summer, WHO announced the launch in 2021 of a Global Diabetes Compact, a global partnership for local solutions to pave the way for universal access to health services and medicines to prevent, screen, diagnose and treat diabetes.
In October, IDF participated in two consultations organised by WHO to gather feedback from experts and stakeholders.
The Global Diabetes Compact will aim to:
- Support countries to accelerate structural transformations to meet the healthcare needs of people living with diabetes.
- Reduce major diabetes risk factors through population-based policy and fiscal measures.
- Improve coverage and quality of diagnosis and treatment of diabetes as part of primary health services and UHC benefit packages.
- Scale-up access to essential diabetes medicines, including insulin and associated devices.
