World Adherence Day: Why staying on track with your healthcare plan matters

21 March 2025

Observed for the first time this 27 March, World Adherence Day is a global initiative led by the World Heart Federation and supported by the International Diabetes Federation. The campaign aims to highlight the importance of following prescribed healthcare plans to manage chronic conditions like diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.

Whether it is taking medications as prescribed, making the required lifestyle changes or attending medical appointments, studies indicate that following healthcare plans is associated with a 21% reduction in long-term mortality risk.

Don’t miss a moment

The campaign theme, Don’t Miss a Moment, reinforces the idea of safeguarding precious life moments — time with family, personal milestones and the ability to enjoy everyday life — through small, consistent actions that can ensure a healthier and more fulfilling tomorrow.

IDF is supporting the campaign by raising awareness of the importance of following diabetes management plans and promoting better self-care for mental and physical well-being. Our work consistently highlights the critical role of medication and treatment, lifestyle changes and regular check-ups for effective diabetes management. Through these activities, IDF aims to improve the quality of life for people with diabetes and reduce the risk of diabetes-related complications.
