The Diabetes Association of Trinidad and Tobago (DATT) was founded on July 2, 1988, as a charitable, voluntary, civil society organisation. To date, there are 7500 members, of which approximately 1000 are active. Currently, DATT operates out of its head office in Chaguanas and has 22 active branches/support groups throughout Trinidad and Tobago and one sub-office/outreach centre in Arima.
DATT also has a pool of over 400 volunteers.
Main Focus
- Education: To promote interest in and education about diabetes and associated conditions.
- Advocacy: To provide a forum for discussing special problems and promote general awareness among the at-risk population in Trinidad and Tobago.
- Research: To drive meaningful and impactful studies to improve diabetes care through academic partnerships.
- Screening: To provide point-of-care testing at our branches and during community outreaches for blood sugar, eyes, feet, and other diabetes markers.
- Support: To provide comprehensive support services that empower individuals with diabetes to manage their condition effectively.
