About
The Sociedad Cubana de Diabetes was created in 1970 by Professor Oscar Mateo de Acosta, who was the founder of the National Institute of Endocrinology. In 2018, it was decided to change the structure of the Society, the word diabetes was integrated and the name Cuban Society of Endocrinology and Diabetes (SOCEND) was approved. From that moment on, diabetes became part of a functional and research group of SOCEND, which strengthened its structure, work and results and with some degree of independence of healthcare professionals dedicated to diabetes.
Main Focus
- Organisation and promotion of key national and international diabetes events
- Creation, support and promotion of diabetes programmes: national diabetes programmes, gestational diabetes programme, diabetes screenings, integral care for children and adolescents with diabetes, national registry for children and adolescents with diabetes, among others
- Encourage the introduction of new treatment and equipment.

- National and international meetings and assemblies.
- Training and education activities for people with diabetes, families and professionals.
- Celebration of World Days.
- National and international congresses.
