About

The Instituto Nacional de Diabetes, Endocrinología y Nutrición (INDEN) was founded on 30 November 1972. It is a hospital dedicated to the management of diabetes and its complications, particularly for people with limited financial resources.

INDEN, also known as Hospital Escuela Dr. Jorge Abraham Hazoury Bahlés, provides patients with specialised, comprehensive care in the areas of diabetes and nutrition, endocrinology, nephrology, neurology, surgery, obstetrics, gynecology, cardiology, gastroenterology, pediatrics, dentistry, psychology, psychiatry, and diabetic foot, among others.

INDEN has an educational role, with two medical residencies – diabetes and nutrition, ophthalmology – to train specialist doctors. Both are supported by the Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE).

Main Focus

INDEN provides high quality health services in all specialties, with adequate equipment, medicines and facilities and through education for the prevention of diabetes complications, to all people with diabetes, particularly those with limited financial resources.

Message from the President

“The Instituto Nacional de Diabetes, Endocrinología y Nutrición is committed to becoming the largest and most influential comprehensive healthcare centre for education, prevention and treatment of diabetes and endocrine diseases. We are a member of the International Diabetes Federation and with the IDF SACA regional office have an agreement for the training of diabetes specialists from Central and South America. Our aim is to assist a large number of people with diabetes and train a large number of specialists.“
