Living with type 1 diabetes has taught me valuable lessons in self-care, self-advocacy and resilience. It has also made me appreciate life’s small pleasures and not take anything for granted. Being open about my condition has allowed me to connect with others, build a support network, and receive essential help and resources.

Diabetes also has a major physical impact. I must carefully manage insulin doses and blood sugar levels to avoid complications, which in turn requires constant monitoring and self-care.

Overall, my experience of living with type 1 diabetes for 16 years has been transformative. I’ve learned about self-care, resilience, and the importance of support. Though challenging, it has shaped me in many ways.

As a Blue Circle Voice, I can contribute to improving the lives of people with diabetes. BCV offers a platform to raise awareness, advocate for better policies and programmes, and provide support. Additionally, BCV is an opportunity to learn about diabetes management, treatment options and the latest research outcomes.
