2-Wheel Diabetes

Cohort: 2018-2019

Uros Bodganovic – Serbia

Many studies have shown that the lack of physical activity (alongside other factors) can result in the development of type 2 diabetes. As a passionate cyclist, Uros has experienced the many physical and mental benefits of regular physical activity. He took part in the Health Grand Tour in 2015 alongside more than 50 athletes with diabetes from around the world in a 10-day cycling adventure from Brussels to Geneva. Inspired by this event he will be organising multiple one-day events in six cities in Serbia during the summer of 2019. Alongside this sporting event, there will be short lectures/discussions before and after the ride in each city, focusing on the importance of physical activity in diabetes treatment and prevention. These events will also provide an opportunity to promote the work of the Diabetes Association of Serbia, the International Diabetes Federation and the Young Leaders in Diabetes Programme.

Uros has now presented the project to the board of directors and the Assembly of the Diabetes Association of Serbia. He spoke to representatives of local associations, expecting their support in implementing the project. The project got approved for implementation in 2019. He is still dedicated to the project; for instance, during summer 2018, Uros has been identifying potential partners for this race.
