My project, Diabetes Games, aims to empower children by teaching them about diabetes management. As part of teaching activities in schools, hospitals and at children’s events, the games focus on the skills and training needed for better diabetes management. Class lessons can appear rigid and routine despite instructive elements. The playful aspect of this learning experience will provide fun and increase interest, so children know more about their condition. The lively format engages children and disables perceived threats from living with diabetes. The knowledge acquired will allow them to take control of and manage their condition.
My name is Rodney Alex Ssewanyana from Kampala-Uganda, and I was diagnosed with diabetes on 1 November 2017. I began working with the children’s organisation, enjuba over five years ago. This experience has taught me that children are the future, empowering them empowers future generations.
