Awareness of diabetic retinopathy among patients with diabetic mellitus in Rabat

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a complication of diabetes mellitus and a major cause of vision loss in people with type 2 diabetes and, to a lesser extent, people with type 1 diabetes. With the collaboration of ophthalmologist Dr K. Belkhadir, diabetologist, and endocrinologist Dr J. Belkhadir, my project will develop and enhance awareness of DR in people with type 1 diabetes in Morocco and support the work of my diabetes association. Based on the response from a cross-sectional study conducted among people with type 1 diabetes, I will develop online learning modules explaining the basics of DR and the importance of prevention and early diagnosis.
