Hey there! My name is Renata Vélez, and I’m excited to share my story with you. I’ve lived with type 1 diabetes since 2010, but that hasn’t stopped me from pursuing my passions. Against all odds, I studied musical theatre and am now a songwriter! When I’m not writing music, you can find me indulging in my love for dogs, painting, chocolate, and meaningful conversations.
But that’s not all – I’ve also been actively advocating for diabetes education and policy improvements. I’ve spoken at events like the Federación Mexicana de Diabetes and Con Diabetes Si Se Puede, IAP. I’m even part of an audiovisual project called “Diabetes”, where I help teach teens about diabetes education.
I’ve also written five articles about diabetes, three of which were published in the FMD magazine “Diabetes Hoy” and two in “Beyond Type 1”. I was even invited as a guest on the radio talk show “Con D de Diabetes”. And if that’s not enough, I’m also working as a graphic designer at Con Diabetes Si Se Puede, IAP.
I’m passionate about using my experiences to help others and always looking for new opportunities to make a difference.
