Dimitris Kaperdanakis – Greece

The GOOD Movement is a series of web and on the ground activities aiming to strengthen the Greek national diabetes community and send out some important messages about what the condition really is. The project is based on three main pillars:

  • the #liveGOOD activities highlight the importance of living a healthy lifestyle
  • the #feelGOOD activities emphasise the mental impact of diabetes on people’s lives and promote the need for awareness regarding depression, diabetes burnout and post-diagnosis management
  • the #doGOOD actions help those in need through donations of diabetes supplies, medicines and volunteering

The GOOD Movement wishes to help people living with diabetes understand the depth and breadth of their condition, and through increased awareness of the real challenges that diabetes often sets, live their lives to the fullest.

To date, Dimitris has conducted an initial evaluation of key stakeholders’ views of the project, including their level of willingness to support the project through both sponsorship and actual engagement. The outcome of this evaluation will be soon available.

In September 2018, Dimitris launched a Facebook profile and a website dedicated to the project to give it more visibility andin the hope of reaching more people through social media and online presence and activity. As part of this online presence, Dimitris has organised two surveys so far. In December 2018, he plans on organising a cooking workshop with a mother of two children living with type 1 diabetes as well as a patients’ panel to discuss taboos surrounding diabetes.
